Dr. Stephen M. Wargo / Soke
Born in 1951, Dr. Wargo began his martial arts career in 1966 when he began learning Judo in Highland, Indiana. In 1970, He began training in the art of Tae Kwon Do -Chung Do Kwan, at Vincennes University under Sensei John Truelove. In 1973 he began training in Tae Kwon Do in South Chicago under a Korean Sensei named Ahn Dae-Sup. He acheived the rank of 1st degree Black Belt in 1975. In 1992, after many years of periodic studies and teaching in various arts, he met Soke Thomas Burdine at a Bill "Superfoot" Wallace Karate tournament in Lafayette, Indiana. In March of 1993 he began studying the arts of aiki under the direction of Soke Burdine. Shortly after, Soke Burdine cross graded him as Shihan (master instructor), as part of the Kokon Ryu hard style system. In 1997 he founded the Wargo Martial Arts Education Center (Wargo Ryu Budo Dojo) in Delphi Indiana. In March 2008, he recieved a PHD Doctorate of martial arts philosophy and science, the grade of 10th dan, and was officially registered as "Soke" (head of family) by Dr. Jim Thomas / Soke, also honored by Soke Burdine recognizing his system of Ji Kwan Do. In 2008, he achieved the rank of Godan (fifth degree black belt) in Kokon Ryu Aikido and Aiki Jutsu. Over the years Soke Wargo has been inducted into the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame eight times. He has ranked several blackbelts since his school opened, and taught more than 200 students. In December 2008, Dr. Wargo underwent knee replacement surgury on both his knees. During all the years of his life, the one thing that has always remained the same is his love for the martial arts. His desire to help others better themselves through the arts drives him today.
Professor Pete D. Wargo / Soke Dai
Born in 1978, Professor Pete Wargo began his martial arts career at age 5 (1983), studying and practicing Jeet Kune Do, NinJitsu, and weapons such as the Nunchakus from books and film, even constructing his own weapons. At age 8 (1985) he began learning Tae Kwon Do from Steve Wargo who had married his mother Brenda. In 1991 he, along with 2 other siblings, was legally adopted by Steve. At age 14 (1993), he began training in the arts of aiki under the direction of Soke Thomas H. Burdine at the Kokon Ryu Bujutsu Renmei Hombu Dojo in Lafayette, Indiana. In 2008 after 25 years of study and as shihan of four styles under his father, he achieved Hichi Dan (7th degree black belt) in Ji Kwan Do, the title of Professor from the University of Asian Martial Arts Studies, and was officially registered as "Soke Dai" (successor) in his father's system of Ji Kwan Do (a system of martial arts combining the 5 styles of Aikido, Aikijutsu, Tae Kwon Do, Karate Do, and Bujutsu). In 2008 he would also achieve San Dan (3rd degree black belt) in Kokon Ryu Aikido and Aikijutsu from Soke Burdine. Professor Wargo currently also holds a fifth degree black belt in Bujutsu, a fifth degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and a fourth degree black belt in Karate Do. He continues to live the martial arts throughout his daily life.
